BTW

By the way, we are going to focus on places in the phoenix metro area, as we cannot afford to take long trips out of state just to try a new restaurant, but if you know somewhere in central AZ, let us know about it, and we might go there and try the food...

Then again, we do have friends in other places, and from time to time, you might see reviews from places like Tuscon or Las Vegas, Or even as far away as Pennsylvania,  but it won't be very common, as that takes time and money, and since the food network or the travel channel  aren't footing the bill...

Welcome Diner

This is the first of what Hopefully will be many posts where we review local dining establishments and share what we liked, and warn you all about places to avoid.
The name of the blog is a running joke between Derek and myself, one that started when we went to Los Reyes del torta. When we went, we took another friend of ours, and the joke was born. Sine then whenever we went out for a dinner night, we refered to it as fat guys' night.

Now, both of us are vets, and have gotten the privilege of eating in various places, not just around the U.S, but around the world. While this might not put us in the ranks of celebrities that have food programs where they review places, it does mean that  we have been to quite a few places of varying quality, and this gives  the experience to prattle on  to you about what is good or what to avoid like victory drive....

What started us on this path, aside from the running joke is that Derek’s wife is a very finicky eater, and this limits Derek in what restaurant options he has for taking her out. Since the list of  restaurants he wants to go to is much larger than the list she will go to, this kinda created a little problem for derek...

That is where I come in, since we both like food, and we enjoy hanging out, when Derek wants food his wife won't eat, we have a fat guys' night, and find something different to eat.

Here we are, I am on the left, derek is on the right. In front of me is their chicken biscuit with bacon, cheese, and sausage gravy, in front of derek is their buffalo wing style chicken biscuit, which had bleu cheese, bacon, lettuce. and tomato. in the center is two platters of fries, the one closer to me had cheese and pulled pork on top, and the barbecue sauce on the pulled pork was a mustard based sauce. The platter at the bottom is their bacon cheese fries, which ar self explanatory.

Here is their grilled cheese biscuit with bacon, which was very tasty, as the y used deli style cheese, instead of american cheese.
Here is a better pic of the buffalo style biscuit.

We went with derek's wife and kids, and tried a selection of their menu, derek and I picked two biscuit sandwiches, and split each to get a better sampling of their food, while his wife and kids each got a grilled cheese biscuit with bacon. In addition we got a plate of their pulled pork fries and a side of andouille sausage, and the family got bacon cheddar fries.

The biscuits were great, not too dry, nor were they too moist, the chicken was great, plump and moist, while the seasonings were just right, and the breading was crispy without being hard.

The fried chicken with sausage gravy biscuit was better than I expected, the gravy added to the moisture of the sandwich without making it a horrible mess or overpowering the the chicken, since they are now open at 1030 am, this makes for a great breakfast for venturing out on a road trip to las vegas.

The buffalo style biscuit was a treat, one I picked on a whim, figuring that the bleu cheese might be good, and we were not disappointed.  the buffalo sauce had just enough spice to it to give flavor without making you run for a glass of milk to put out the fire in your mouth, and the bleu cheese enhanced the flavor, instead of overpowering it as bleu cheese tends to do.

All this having been said, I can't recommend them highly enough, the food was great, the service was beyond professional and courteous, and the place had a fun, eating on the back patio kind of feel, if you get a chance, check them out, they are in Phoenix, head east off of seventh street along Roosevelt, they are on the north side, just off of tenth street.

Here is the linky to their menu:
